Welcome to
Onyx Trauma Healing Center
If you’ve had a difficult past, you may be struggling with one or several debilitating issues in your life.
You may generally feel overwhelmed, perhaps you feel depressed, you may be instantly triggered by certain people or situations, or you might feel the opposite and just kind of…blah.
This can be a terribly frustrating way to live, and can make it difficult to even just get out of bed in the morning.
But it’s important to remember that this isn’t a reflection of who you are. Rather, it’s an indication of what you’ve been through.
If you are experiencing these kinds of things, then you are likely struggling with trauma: distress brought on by adverse experiences from your past.
Now, there’s a good possibility that you either have tried or at least it has been suggested to you to try receiving therapy. But you may not have very positive associations with therapy. Either you tried it and had a negative experience or you possibly don’t even believe in its value to you.
This may be because your experience or perception of it, is how most people look at it: as an opportunity to discuss things in a certain setting and hopefully, eventually get better.
And talk therapy like this does of course have value, but it’s not likely to lead to significant changes if you’ve been through some kind of trauma.
What significant research has shown us is that our body traps trauma from our past not just in our mind but in our body. And the reason why most therapy models don’t work as well as they could is because they start with the brain.
What this means is that traditional talk therapy isn’t likely to work as a first step. In fact, if you’ve been through significant trauma you are too blocked in your body to be available for that work.
We are actually best able to overcome trauma when we start not with the brain but rather the body.
With this in mind, I help you to begin the delicate but important work of addressing the trauma that exists in your body. This means that we will explore a variety of tools that help you to feel safe in your body including Brainspotting, breath work, somatic work, and even trauma-informed yoga – and once that feeling of safety is created your system will open up enough to be receptive to other forms of therapy as well.
It’s unnecessary for you to feel all of the adverse emotions that come up in relation to your trauma. If you’re interested in learning what this process might look like for you, call us today schedule an appointment so we can discuss what your path to healing may look like.

Brainspotting (BSP) was discovered in 2003 by David Grand, Ph.D. Brainspotting is effective for a wide variety of emotional and somatic conditions. Brainspotting is particularly effective with trauma-based situations, helping to identify and heal underlying trauma that contributes to anxiety, depression and other behavioral conditions.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is a form of short-term therapy that aims to improve couple relationships by rekindling the physical and emotional bond that can get sacrificed to disappointment in a partner and alienation from them, a common dynamic in distressed couples. If there is a motto for EFT, it is: “Hold me tight.”
